Online service blitzortung.org is a non-profit network of receiving stations around the world installed by enthusiasts. For example, under safety, without special permission, it is forbidden to carry out 220 volts on the roof. Therefore, together with the comrade, we developed a custom system, where food was filed using Power Over Ethernet technology. We also defended the receiver with a hermetically closing box and installed two thermostats responsible for heating and cooling. As a result, the device survived autumn, winter and spring, began to work well and turned out to be somewhere on the 300th place among the ten thousand other FlightRadar receivers worldwide. Thinking to eliminate the problems was interesting. But when I realized that everything was over, it became boring again. It was necessary to keep the brains for some problem. And then I remembered Blitzortung.org,- explains Victor.

Silent noise

The cost of the direction finder lightning is not as high - within 500 euros. An antenna system is required, VLF-amplifier, controller board and GPS receiver. Almost everything can be ordered in Germany at the creator of the Blitzortung project Egon Weix. However, by virtue of high duties on parcels from abroad, Victor decided that it would be easier and cheaper to deliver the equipment himself.

- Brought here on the plane. Old boxing from under FlightRadar did not fit, so I went to Vilnius and bought a new one. We do not sell this. Well, or you need to try to find. In the conditions of Belarusian reality, the main thing is to come to the store and assemble what is required, from the existing range,- half a joke, half seriously says enthusiast.

The result is obvious. So, the electrical antenna, located on the roof of the workshop, is packed in the trim of the sewer pipe. The magnetic antenna is attached to two plastic plates from under flower vases. But the creator is inclusted rather not aesthetic, but the functional side of the device. - What for? The meteorological service has a radar that shows clouds (no matter, thunderstorm or squinting), and they believe that this is enough. The radar is updated every 15 minutes, and here everything is displayed in real time. Familiar offered to collect money through crowdfunding, but I decided that at first the direction finder in the conditions of the city should be tested. I did not want to upset investors in a non-working or poorly working device.
