Metal scissors screwdriver attachment Drill bit "cricket" and other "usefulness" with detailed descriptions. Disc nozzle for a drill for cutting metal

Today there is a great variety of all kinds of tools, whose tasks include cutting and cutting thin sheet material. One way or another, they cope with their tasks, but they have one feature - universal metal scissors do not exist. Some devices are easily cut from flat sheet steel, others are perfect for stationary work, and still others, being a household tool, can hardly cope with the task of cutting drywall profiles. The only exception is one device - cut-through scissors, one of the variants of which is the "cricket" drill attachment, which will be discussed in this article.

How the cricket nibbler works

It is quite simple to imagine the work of a nibbler - in fact, it can be compared to a chisel that makes breakdowns in metal at a high frequency. Another comparison is the modern electric jigsaw, in which the standard saw with teeth is replaced by a punch rod (chisel). This principle of robots, combining a punching tool and a jigsaw, opens up wide possibilities and allows you to use a tool of this type even for shape cutting of sheet metal. It is for this reason that modern builders use the cricket for cutting:

  • profiled flooring;
  • any smooth steel when it comes to high volume work.

These are not the only reasons why the drill cutter attachment has become widespread in the construction and renovation industry.

The advantages of this tool

Another weighty advantage of a cricket is its careful attitude to protective and decorative coating or metal tiles. Punching the material through and through, he not only does not injure it along the edges of the cut, but, on the contrary, rolls, thus protecting the end of the cut from corrosion. As a result, the metal lasts much longer.

Additionally, the following points can be highlighted as the advantages of a cutting metal drill bit.

  • High productivity - a 1 m cut can be completed in less than a minute. Yes, the grinder cuts faster, but unlike the nozzle, it burns the protective and decorative coating.
  • That only is the opportunity to overcome almost any obstacle. Wave and various bends are not a problem at all - you can direct the movement of the torch not only left and right, but also up and down.
  • According to the manufacturers, this tool is able to easily cope with metal up to 2 mm thick, which is quite enough for working with roofing materials.
  • The cost of the instrument can be called purely symbolic. It is at least five times lower than the price of professional cutting shears with a built-in electric drive.

As for the shortcomings, the most significant is only one - it is almost impossible to achieve a perfectly straight cut. In principle, it is not needed, since in most cases the edges are overlapped either with another sheet of metal or with special elements. If you really try and come up with some kind of guide, then this problem can be solved.

Safety precautions when working with a "cricket"

In addition to the risks of cutting yourself on the edges of sheet iron, there are a couple of points that you need to watch out for when working with a drill bit. These are shavings - small and, most importantly, sharp fragments of metal in the form of a crescent. They can cause very serious trouble.

  • First of all, the shavings easily stick into the legs, and this may not even be felt on the hardened feet. Then suppurations and all the ensuing consequences begin. It is best to work with the tool in closed shoes.
  • The second point is, or rather, its impeller, which serves to cool the electric motor. Penetrating into the air intake hole, small metal crescents quickly disable the power tool. There is only one way to protect the drill - to pack it in a mesh material (for example, nylon tights).

In addition, one should not forget that small chips scattered throughout the yard corrode quickly, and if they remain, for example, on paving slabs, then rust eats into it and spoils the appearance of the coating. Timely cleaning of the workplace solves almost all issues.

What to look for when buying a "cricket"

Almost all tools of this type have the same design and work according to the same principle - they are not provided with any additional options, and no additional devices are provided for them. Everything is simple - including the choice, approaching which you need to pay attention to just a couple of points.

Basically, decide for yourself what is best for you - cheap and cheerful or expensive, but for a long time. From practice, I can only say one thing - my first nozzle from Sparky worked in an intensive mode of operation without repairs and Maintenance for five years. By and large, we are not talking about that much money - a professional attachment can be purchased for about $ 30-50.

At the end of the topic, the "cricket" drill attachment, there is only one thing to add - to remind you that you can extend the life of any tool thanks to proper care for it. Every self-respecting master should clean his “breadwinners” at the end of work and monitor their technical condition. Naturally, one should not forget about the careful attitude to the tool - hammering nails with a nozzle and generally using it for other purposes is simply wrong.

There are many tools that can be useful in everyday life or for performing infrequent work on order. In order to buy, for example, a so-called "grinder", a considerable amount will be required, and the tool, meanwhile, will lie more somewhere in the garage or workshop idle, being unclaimed.

Not every tool designed for a particular job can be bought by a person: it will take a lot of money and extra storage space. And, as practice shows, there is simply no sense in this. But there is still a way out of this situation.

Nozzles are available for the following work:

  • Drilling at an angle;
  • Grinding;
  • Polishing;
  • Sharpening nozzles;
  • Drilling;
  • For cutting metal.

As you can see from the above, having only one drill and several attachments, you can thus replace a lot of expensive tools and not waste your money.

Basic Methods for Cutting Sheet Metal

Sooner or later, every homeowner, let alone professionals, cuts sheet metal to one scale or another. Even from the lessons of labor at school, and many after, at work, such tools for cutting metal are known:

But time passes, and technical progress does not stand still. Mankind has invented the simplest and inexpensive cutting tool paired with an electric drill called "metal nibbling shears." This equipment is simple, constructive and very easy to use.

When in the tool arsenal of any man there is one, as well as an electric drill, then there are no problems with cutting a metal sheet and cannot be.

And if there is no one on the farm, then it can be purchased at the nearest economic or construction market.

A good alternative to the grinder

This drill attachment has been helping out craftsmen for many years. Such a tool is called a nibbler.

Easily punches a track about 3 mm thick in metal. This method of cutting gives the required cleanliness of the cut, and there is no particular need for further cleaning of the cut.

Material thicknesses that the scissors can cut:

  • Copper and brass - 1.5 mm;
  • Aluminum - 2 mm;
  • Stainless steel - 0.8 mm.

For metalworking

These attachments are scissors of a simple and original design, where the rotary movement of the drill chuck is converted into a reciprocating one.

Nibblers "Cricket"

The technical capabilities of the Sverchok attachment allow cutting metal and plastics. Moreover, the material can be cut both sheet and profile. Two cutting heads of the cutting attachment per drill allow cutting of materials of a certain thickness (indicated thickness is maximum):

  1. For aluminum - 2 mm;
  2. On steel - 1.5 mm;
  3. For stainless steel - 1.2 mm;
  4. On plastic - 2 mm.

Additional characteristics:

  • Electric drill power from 420 W;
  • Turnovers - from 3000 rpm;
  • Cutting radius (minimum) - 12 mm;
  • The cutting direction is unlimited, therefore 360 degrees.

Application area:

  1. Mounting;
  2. Roofing works;
  3. Manufacturing of gutters;
  4. Disassembly of various structures;
  5. Bodywork;
  6. Curly (decorative) cutting.

When working with a nibbler for a drill, no adjustments or special skills or knowledge are required.

The Cricket tool for metal cutting is very maneuverable, and its possibilities as a cutting tool are very wide.

As for cutting with a grinder, there are a number of disadvantages compared to metal shears. The drill bit has a number of significant advantages:

  • The material does not overheat during cutting, which is especially valuable when cutting through metal tiles.
  • The maneuverability of the nibbler for a drill is much higher than that of the well-known grinder.
  • Higher cutting speed.
  • A cleaner cut that rarely requires further plumbing.
  • When working with a nibbler for a drill, there is no jamming of the tool from distortions, which very often happens when working with a grinder, hence the almost complete absence of cases of injury.
  • The zinc and paint-and-lacquer coating of the material does not burn, which prevents premature corrosion and, which is very important, preserves the guarantee for the material.
  • When working with the Cricket tool for metal cutting, there are no sparks, unlike a grinder, which not only protects the material from burning, but also excludes the possibility of injury to the eyes of the worker.

The "Cricket" scissor attachment has a number of analogs, for example:

  1. "Beaver";
  2. Steel Beaver;
  3. Scissor attachment NP 1.8 SPARKY;
  4. EDMA NIBBLEX;
  5. Malco turboShear TS1 - can be used with a drill and for installation on a screwdriver.

All of the above attachments have some differences on technical specifications and prices. The most expensive attachment is the Malco turboShear TS1. It has a slightly different design and was produced in the USA, not in the PRC.

It should be noted that the normal operation of these devices can only be ensured when the certified drill speed is more than 2700 rpm.

Screwdriver attachment

If an electric drill is not available, then the screwdriver can also perform the same functions.

The difference, however, is still there:

  • The rotational speed of the screwdriver is lower than that of the drill. Low revolutions and, accordingly, the power of the power tool will not allow cutting metal with the same performance, especially if it is closer to 2 mm thickness.
  • Lack of inertia. After the user has released the button, the chuck immediately stops rotating. In terms of safety precautions, this is even slightly better, as well as in the case of a curved cut.
  • Small size and light weight compared to a drill. This allows you to do all kinds of "pirouettes" when cutting more easily than with a drill.
  • Screwdrivers run on batteries, therefore, its work is autonomous, and the power cord does not interfere with normal operation.
  • There is no adjustment of the rotation speed of the chuck.

It is quite clear that a screwdriver can also be used instead of a drill with a "Cricket" type attachment.

For cutting metal tiles and more

This accessory is a real godsend for cutting materials such as metal tiles.

Advantages:

  1. Does not damage material and coating;
  2. Easily follows the contour of the material profile;
  3. Able to make cuts of varying complexity.

"Cricket" is a real find for both a handicraftsman and a professional. She can make an internal cut and can work both horizontally and vertically.

The nozzle for cutting metal tiles allows you to cut metal tiles and corrugated board, with which this tool does an excellent job. After all, it is well known that it is difficult to work by making cuts in these materials with another tool, and "Cricket" copes with this task perfectly: cleanly, quickly and without errors.

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages:

  • The surface finish is better than that of the grinder.
  • This device can be used to make holes ("windows") of any complexity in metal.
  • The tool is easy to operate and maintain, and takes up little storage space.
  • Low price.
  • You can cut both metal and plastic, as well as carbonate of a certain thickness, stated in the instructions for use of this equipment.
  • The possibility of using the device in places where there is no power supply is compensated by the presence of a cordless drill. In addition, it can be successfully used in damp rooms, where using an electric drill from the mains is life-threatening.
  • The device is multifunctional.
  • The low weight of the device is also an undeniable advantage.

Of the shortcomings, there is only one and the main one: the device must be held with both hands, which is not always convenient and safe when working at height.

In conclusion, I would like to summarize what has been said. Any user, both a beginner and an experienced one, who does not want to overpay for a fabulously expensive instrument, can always buy an inexpensive analogue, which will pay for itself very quickly by performing the same functions.

Very often it turns out that suddenly there was a need to use a cutting tool, and the plans to buy something expensive, which is not known when it will be needed (if necessary, at all), was not included.

In this case, it is the metal shears that will be very useful.

That is why the cutting attachment for a drill has found wide application in many areas of human activity: repair, assembly, dismantling and restoration.

Successful purchase and pleasure from working with the Sverchok attachment for metal cutting!

I assembled this chip sucker a year ago. During this time, I completely ran it in and I can say that the design is quite working. used for the chip suction asynchronous motor at 1.5kW / 3000 rpm. I assembled this chip sucker a year ago. During this time, I completely ran it in and I can say that the design is quite working. Unfortunately, the format of the competition does not allow us to describe in detail the manufacturing process and the reason for choosing the shape of the parts, so I only offer short description and I will focus on the most important points... An asynchronous motor of 1.5 kW / 3000 rpm was used for the chip suction. The impeller is assembled from plywood. The impeller was sized to avoid overloading the motor. The blades are curved and the impeller rotates with the curved side forward. To bend the blades, I used two 3mm plates and glued them. The impeller is attached to the engine via a plywood pulley. To remove any beating of the pulley, I carved it right on my own engine. The impeller blades are glued to the sidewalls using grooves. Manually calculating the radii was difficult enough, but I have a homemade one. milling machine with CNC (based on the Enkor FME-850 milling cutter). With the help of it, all the details came out as they should, although I had to slightly adjust each blade individually to its place. But after gluing and installing on the motor shaft, there was a slight runout in both axes. The beauty of a wooden impeller is that it can be easily turned, but it was dangerous to run it with beats at 3000 rpm (its diameter is 360mm and thickness is 120mm). Therefore, I attached an Enkor LME-900 belt sander (it has convenient grooves for fastening with clamps) and removed the beats by rotating the impeller manually. Next, balancing was carried out by drilling the plywood from the back of the impeller. After that, I already risked starting the engine and made sure that everything was working well. The impeller body was also assembled from bent plywood in the form of a "sandwich" of 2 plates 3 mm thick. The casing cover is rigidly attached to the engine, and the casing to it using latches for quick disassembly... At the final stage, all joints are glued with a window rubber seal for tightness. The next step was the assembly of the cyclone itself. It consists of two parts and is made of plywood and galvanized sheet. The upper part creates a swirl of air, and the cone separates debris directly. The ends of the cylinder are cut and glued onto liquid nails. I cut it with a grinder Enkor UShM-900 / 125M. The frame was cut out of galvanized steel using a screwdriver from Enkor ACCUMaster AKM1802 and the Sverchok device. All connections are sealed on the non-working side. The engine is hung on two simple brackets. The engine itself, together with the upper cover of the volute, is suspended from brackets on rubber shock absorbers, which also dampen the beats at start and stop. At the cyclone, the upper plywood part of the body is load-bearing and is rigidly attached to the wall. A "bucket" on wheels is attached from below, which is convenient. At this point, the chip sucker was ready for testing. The wiring was gradually assembled. I used the usual sewer pipe 110 and 50mm. It does not fit well with a 100mm corrugated hose and I used a 100mm round ventilation pipe in these places. For convenience, latches and scoops were made for sweeping. I also added remote controls. That's all. Thank you for the attention.

Can't always be found in foliage finishing material the required size and shape. During repair, installation of a fencing made of profiled metal sheet, devices roofing it is required to quickly cut this or that workpiece, adjust the standard element to the actual dimensions. For cutting, you can use an angle grinder, scissors, other cutting tool... If it is not at hand or you are on a budget, then there is an alternative - a cricket drill attachment.

Short description

It is a detachable mechanism that fits on a standard electric hand drill chuck. It is designed for cutting flat and corrugated metal sheets:

  • Composite aluminum sheet up to 2 millimeters thick
  • Galvanized profiled sheet up to 0.8 mm thick
  • Copper, brass up to 1.5 mm thick

By appearance The cricket drill bit resembles a cylindrical steel blank with "fingers" sticking out in both directions. A cylindrical blank is a body through which torque is transmitted from a drill to two cutting surfaces. "Fingers" are paired dies in direct contact with a metal workpiece. The tool comes with a plastic threaded handle-holder, which is screwed onto one of the paired cutting surfaces.

In addition, a spare die and punch, as well as a hex wrench are supplied with the attachment.

Principle of operation

The cricket drill attachment does not cut metal like an angle grinder, but cuts it due to the frequent translational movements of the matrix. The working unit converts the torque from the drill rotor. The tool cannot run at low rpm. To obtain a high-quality cut, it must maintain a rotation speed of 2700-3000 rpm. If this parameter is not met, then the metal around the cut bends, the quality of the finished product deteriorates.

Application area

It is widely used for cutting thin sheet metal. Its design is specially designed for making both straight and curved cuts. With a certain skill of work, you can perform figure sawing along a complex path.

Unlike an angle grinder or metal scissors, the "cricket" is able to cut from the center of the workpiece without creating through cuts.

The cutting attachment is especially useful for roofing works and installation of fences. It's all about the material. Basically, a profiled sheet is used, which is perfectly cut with this tool.

Positive properties

The cricket drill bit is widespread due to a number of positive properties. It outperforms some power tools in terms of its performance.

  • Mobility. She has a small size, much smaller than that of a grinder. The attachment is easy to install and remove from the drill, making work easier
  • High indicator of autonomy of work. The "cricket" has two full-fledged cutting dies. If one fails, then you can use the other. In addition, a third spare is included with the tool.
  • Maintainability. There are no complex mechanisms in its design, there is practically nothing to break. The cutting head is supplied as a pre-assembled block that can be easily installed on site
  • The speed of work. Numerous tests show that the cutting performance and cutting speed of the attachment are significantly superior to those of an angle grinder. Metal scissors do not compare at all
  • Cut quality. According to this indicator, the "dragonfly" has no competitors. Due to the translational movements of the matrix, the edge of the metal in the cutting area remains even. There are no burrs on it. Metal does not heat up, protective polymer coating the profiled sheet does not burn. The zinc protection is not destroyed. While in the process of sawing with a grinder, the edges of the sheet are charred, burrs remain on them.
  • Lack of collateral damage. Working with a grinder is associated with the formation of sparks that fly over a considerable distance. If a galvanized profiled sheet is being processed, the sparks burn out the protective coating. During operation, the metal will be covered with brown rust spots. Sawing with a dragonfly attachment takes place in the absence of sparks. Rust problems do not occur
  • Ergonomic Handle - the holder makes working with the tool convenient and safe

Negative properties

There are not so many of them, they do not have a critical influence on the choice of the instrument:

  • Limitation related to the type of grip. He only has two hands. Therefore, it is impossible to carry out operations on inclined planes, where it is necessary to hold
  • Metal thickness. Designed for cutting thin metal

Safe work rules

They practically do not differ from standard measures when working with a saw tool:

  1. Do not cut with one hand. This can cause it to rebound;
  2. Before starting work, the rigidity of the fastening of the holder handle is checked. To do this, it turns clockwise to failure.
  3. It is allowed to work only in goggles and gloves;
  4. It is recommended to cut the sheet away from you, and not towards yourself;
  5. Do not work with a defective tool. These include: a loose drill chuck, a worn-out sawing matrix, a loose grip

Firms - manufacturers

Products of different brands are similar to each other. The main difference is in the thickness of the sheet that a particular model can cut. The price directly depends on this.

There are several companies worthy of attention on the Russian market:

  • Anchor
  • Corvette
  • Sparky

The use of scissor attachments on a drill greatly facilitates the performance of roofing work, the installation of a metal fence, and other manipulations with sheet material. A convenient combination with a hand drill allows you to reduce the cost of purchasing an expensive specialized tool. Ready product turns out to be neat and of high quality.

How do you cut metal at home? In 90% of cases hand scissors(we are talking about a thin metal sheet). The method is unsophisticated, inexpensive, but not devoid of drawbacks.

  • At the very least, making a long cut without burrs is difficult.
  • Since the scissors are located along the sheet, the planes to be cut need to be spread up and down. This makes it difficult to work, not to mention the fact that the edges need to be leveled afterwards.
  • If the workpiece is not flat, but with stiffening ribs (for example, corrugated board, or figured "under the tiles" covering for the roof), it is almost impossible to make a cut with ordinary scissors for metal.

It takes a lot of physical effort. If you need to cut several meters at a time, then it turns out a good workout, like in a gym. Often a grinder with a cutting disc is used for such work.

It turns out quickly, relatively smoothly and not at all physically difficult. However, the edges require post-processing and the metal at the edge is exposed to unwanted thermal effects.

If you work with sheets of profiled metal-plastic "tiles", then the protective layer in the place of the cut burns out and loses its aesthetic appeal.

Progressive way- electric scissors for metal with vertical blades. However, it is an expensive tool that is rarely used (how often do you re-cover your roof?). Therefore, there are more practical accessories on sale: a drill attachment for cutting metal.

In fact, it is a gearbox that converts the rotary motion of the spindle into oscillatory. Of course, in terms of its characteristics, the device is inferior to full-fledged electric scissors.

However, a drill attachment is inexpensive, and besides, you do not buy a ready-made tool (scissors with a motor), which gathers dust on the shelf most of the time. There is a drill in almost every home, if necessary, it can be easily turned into a progressive cutter.

Varieties of nozzles

Classic drill attachment - metal scissors. Second name: "beaver".
